Julia Faulks
Julia started her singing journey in 2009 after embarking on vocal training and recording covers in her local studio. In 2020, she wrote and released her first two songs, followed by an EP, titled 'Sweet Harmonies' in 2022, and subsequent singles. Julia has collaborated on dance, trance and indie pop tracks, providing vocals for bands, DJs and producers. In 2023 Julia signed to an independent label and publisher, with ambitions to write music for TV/film. After her first open mic in 2019, Julia joined a soul band in 2022 and began performing for the first time. "I'm so excited to sing with Best Chilled on some classic pop and rock covers and push my repertoire even more." On top of music, Julia is a qualified journalist and works full time as a content editor. She is married with two daughters (not forgetting the third ‘child’, a cocker spaniel!)
Izzy Sands
Izzy has been singing since the age of 7, inspired by her mother who was a singer, her first singing teacher, and the jazz artists she listened to growing up. Although passionate about both singing and dancing, in her late teens she underwent a life-changing back operation, which led to her solely focusing on her passion for singing. Izzy went on to study at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, gaining a vocal diploma. She counts Ronnie Scott’s jazz bar as the best place she has ever performed, in addition to many weddings with her trio. “I was inspired by my family to get into creative arts as they have always been so supportive. I’m really looking forward to getting started with Best Chilled to perform more, as that's what I love to do!”
Andrew Rae
Andrew (also known as Drew and Mandrew!) grew up in Carshalton, where he continues to live now. He started playing the guitar when he was 14 and reached Grade 7 on the clarinet and Grade 2 on the piano. Andrew has been in Best Chilled since 2018 and has played in bands since 2016. He currently works as a Financial Crime Analyst for a high street bank. When he isn’t performing or investigating dodgy fraud and money laundering, Andrew loves nothing more than following Newcastle United around the country. He also counts himself as a beer connoisseur, enjoys running and long walks, and has an interest in modern history, after gaining a degree in history from the University of Kent.
Paul (Ned) Picton
Paul was born on Halloween in 1961 and grew up in Balham, South London. Paul (nicknamed ‘Ned’ by school pals… something to do with the Penguin classic ‘Ned, the Lonely Donkey!) started playing bass in his last year of school, before giving it up for 20 years and joining a pool team at his local pub. After getting the bug for music again 15 or so years ago, he met Barry (Baz) and they formed ‘Best Chilled’ in 2012. As well as his love of music, Paul rode motorbikes around London for 23 years, before giving it up in 2016 after a bad accident - and has never been on one since. Paul is married to Debbie, his childhood sweetheart, and has two sons, Adam and Daniel.
Barry Heffernon
Baz (Barry) worked in IT in the city for 35 years. When he retired in 2010, as well as learning to sail and gaining his day skipper licence, Baz also learned to play drums. As a keen tennis player (who claims to be rubbish!), he formed a band with some friends from the club. When this band dissolved in 2012, he founded ‘Best Chilled’, with Ned on bass. Baz is married with two children and one grandson. He loves nothing more than sailing in the Solent and the Greek islands. “I am so looking forward to our new format and gigging with these lovely people!”
